Isolation of Bacillus anthracis from Patient Blood

Abstract

|
We have isolated Gram positive bacilli which can grow aerobically from blood of 2 patients who visited Emergency Room of Dongguk University Hospital in Kyungju and died within sever al hours after blood sampling. The isolated bacteria was gram
positive,
spore forming bacillus (1.2((12nm) that can form white colony in blood agar plate. The isolated bacteria was non hemolytic, non-motile, susceptible to penicilline, toxic to mice and heavily encapsulated if blood smeared when the mice were just
dead. It
was compatible with Bacillus anthracis in all the biochemical test and experimental study.
